Intermediate Spanish Immersion
for High School students who have completed at least two years of Spanish
CREATIVE, ENGAGING and NATURAL LANGUAGE LEARNING
Learning a language is most effective when it is interactive, multi-sensory, participatory, and relational.
At Lexington Prep, we are passionate about what we teach and how we teach it. We will dive deep into grammar and learn the important rules of the language, but within the context of a student-centered language teaching method, called TPR Storytelling (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). Click the link to learn more! Our small class sizes ensure that our expert teachers will get to know each student’s personality and learning style, and can adequately assist them in focusing on listening skills and pronunciation.
Most afternoons you can expect to be out of the classroom and adventuring around Boston and surrounding cities. We will spend a lot of time expanding our vocabulary by interacting with the native Spanish speakers in the Greater Boston area. These explorations will include going to an authentic Colombian Restaurant for lunch in East Boston and ordering your meal in Spanish. We will also practice our Spanish conversational skills by spending time with various organizations in Boston that reach out to Hispanic children and families.
The best way to learn a language is to use it as much as possible! The expectation is you will solely speak Spanish from the moment you arrive; in class, out on adventures, to your teachers, to your classmates. Get ready!
Students will spend their evenings back at the Lexington Prep School campus, where they will have time to study, practice what they have learned that day, and have some down time to relax and prepare for the next day.
During the weekend students will be engaging with academic activities, such as vocabulary challenges and tournaments, and balanced with fun activities like talent shows, a trip to an amusement park, and local shopping venues, plus a graduation ceremony at the end!
This course is taught by a dynamic and engaging Colombian secondary teacher and musician, Señora Beatriz. Upon arrival you will be committing to speaking ONLY Spanish 100% of the time… even in your free time!
HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT
Spend 4 weeks at Lexington Prep and you will receive a transcript showing that you have successfully completed one year of Intermediate Conversational Spanish language study from an accredited institution.
